How to Check Whether the S1 Is Working Properly
Purpose of this page: Help you quickly confirm that your HISONG AirStudio S1 is in a normal working state before recording, filming, or performing, so you can avoid common issues such as no sound, no response, or mistakenly thinking the device is faulty.
Quick Check at a Glance (30-Second Self-Test)
If the following three conditions are met, the S1 is working properly:
-
The S1 is powered on (the side switch is not in the [Left] position)
-
Monitoring earphones are worn, and you can hear your voice in real time
-
The device is not muted (the indicator light is not solid red)
If any one of these conditions is not met, please continue with the checks below.
▼ Step 1|Confirm the S1 Is Powered On and in Working Mode
How to check:
-
Look at the position of the side switch on the S1
-
Set the switch to Enhanced Dynamic mode [Middle] or Condenser mode [Right]
Normal Status Indicators
-
The S1 can be powered on and responds normally
-
Monitoring, connection, and pairing functions are available
⚠ Common Mistakes
-
The side switch is positioned in the middle but not fully engaged
-
Assuming that charging mode means the device is in working mode
▼ Step 2|Confirm Monitoring Is Working (Most Important Step)
How to check:
-
Put on the included monitoring earphones
-
Speak normally into the S1 microphone
Normal status indicators:
-
You can clearly hear your own voice in the earphones
-
Audio is continuous, with no obvious dropouts
If this step works, it confirms that:
-
The microphone is functioning properly
-
The earphones and monitoring signal chain are working
-
The S1 is in a usable state
▼ Step 3|Check Whether the S1 Is Muted
How to identify: Check the indicator light on the S1:
-
Solid red → The device is currently muted
-
Solid green / Green blinking → Not muted
How to fix:
-
Single-press or press and hold the mute button (refer to the actual hardware markings)
-
Once mute is disabled, the indicator light will return to its normal color
▼ Step 4|Check Whether Other Functions Are Occupying the Device (Important)
In some cases, the S1 may still be working, but certain functions are automatically disabled:
Common case 1|Bluetooth is automatically turned off
-
A USB-C cable is connected
-
Multitrack recording is enabled
-
Bluetooth has been inactive for a period of time
This is normal behavior by design, not a malfunction.
How to resolve:
-
Disconnect the USB-C cable
-
Restart the S1 and search for Bluetooth again\
Common Case 2|Monitoring Path Has Changed
-
The S1 is connected to a host device or mixer
-
Hardware monitoring has been turned off
In this situation, monitoring audio may come from another device instead of the earphones.
▼ Step 5|Confirm All Three Volume Levels Are Set Correctly (via HISONG Link)
On the S1, the most common reason for no sound or very low sound is volume being turned down, not a hardware issue.
Please check the following three volume controls in order:
① Microphone Volume (Vocal Level) Purpose: Determines how loud your speaking or singing voice is
-
Adjust the microphone gain buttons
-
Speak into the S1 while listening and observe changes in monitoring volume
-
Make sure the device is not in one-touch mute mode
Normal status indicators:
-
The volume changes noticeably when you speak
-
You don’t need to be extremely close to the microphone to be heard
⚠ Common mistakes:
-
Microphone gain set to the minimum
-
Accidentally muting the mic and forgetting to unmute it
② Monitoring Volume (What You Hear in the Earphones) Purpose: Controls how loud the sound is in your earphones
-
Press and hold the earphone touch controls to adjust monitoring volume
-
Confirm that monitoring is enabled
Normal status indicators:
-
Sound in the earphones is clear and controllable
-
Loudness changes when adjusting the monitoring volume
⚠ Common mistakes:
-
The microphone is working, but monitoring volume is turned down
-
Assuming “no sound in earphones = the device is not working”
③ Accompaniment Volume (Music Played from the Phone) Purpose: Determines whether the accompaniment can be heard and mixed into the output
-
Check the phone’s system volume
-
Check the accompaniment volume control on the S1
-
Make sure it is not independently turned down or muted
Normal status indicators:
-
A proper balance between accompaniment and vocals
-
You don’t hear “only vocals” or “only accompaniment”
⚠ Common mistakes:
-
Phone volume is normal, but the S1 accompaniment volume is set to zero
-
Mistaking this for a Bluetooth or device malfunction
▼ Step 6|Check for Abnormal Device States (Rare Cases)
If you encounter any of the following situations:
-
The indicator light is blinking abnormally
-
The earphones do not respond
-
Repeated operations result in no change
Please try the following steps:
-
Power off the S1
-
Wait 5 seconds, then power it on again
-
Put on the earphones and test monitoring
⚠ Common Issues & Troubleshooting
Q: The S1 is powered on, but there’s no sound in the earphones. Why?
-
Check whether the device is muted
-
Check whether hardware monitoring has been turned off
-
Check whether the S1 is connected to another device and an external monitoring path has been selected, causing the monitoring route to change
Q: The indicator light is on, but the device seems unresponsive. Why?
-
Indicator light ≠ monitoring is working
-
Be sure to complete the step “speak into the microphone” to confirm actual audio output
